My photographic journey

My name is Nigel Maddison and I live in Ellesmere, Shropshire. My lifelong interest in photography began capturing black and white images with my pride and joy at the time - a Russian Zenit 35 mm SLR and Helios lens. The purchase was a bittersweet moment, however, as I had to sell the half sovereign given to me as a keepsake by my parents... it did not go down well!

I had the opportunity to develop, print and glaze my prints too since part of my job (in the scientific field) was recording high speed transients of explosions on an oscilloscope and photographing the screen with a high speed drum camera.

Photography has come a long way since then!

Beyond the ordinary

My photography is driven by a singular passion : to try to capture the unusual. 

I’ve always been inspired by photographs that capture the everyday as images of intrigue… pictures which often look as if they had been taken from a film or book cover.
